October 13, 2020 - Formation of Alnwick Haldimand Residents Group

Over the past couple of years, there has been growing concern among residents about happenings in the Alnwick/Haldimand government. In particular there was concern that the revolving door on staff departures and Council restructuring was allowing major issues to fall through the cracks.

Residents began connecting with one another. This included long-time volunteers from committees and boards within the community, and others concerned about the future of the Township. It became apparent that there was a need to unify residents to lobby Council, rather than having individuals approach Council.

Alnwick Haldimand Residents is the official name of the group and all AH residents can join. It is as simple as sending an email to:

The purpose of the group is to prepare submissions to Council on important issues that matter to taxpayers.

Here's how it works:

• An important issue arises
• The proposed submission is circulated to all names on the email list
• Two days is allowed for response from members
• Once the member has read the issue, the member has a choice to be included in support of the matter, or to opt out on a particular submission
• No response is assumed to indicate lack of support for the issue and the name of that individual will NOT be included on the email to Council

To date Alnwick Haldimand Residents group has made two submissions to Council. The first submission was included on the August 6, 2020 Agenda with respect to the 2021 Budget Schedule. Link to Budget Submission

There was a positive response from Council and a Budget Schedule was brought forward to a subsequent Council Meeting.

The second submission, regarding CAO Recruitment, was NOT allowed on the Agenda for Thursday’s Council Meeting on October 15, 2020.

The submissions are availble here. The Mayor’s response and subsequent responses by members are posted here.
