September 6, 2020 - Brighton Considers Decision to Install Ice at the Arena

The Council for Brighton Municipality has not yet decided on whether their arena will open for the 2020/2021 season. A Notice of Motion has been brought forward to put in an outdoor ice pad in the event the arena doesn't open.

The following is copied from the Agenda for Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

"Notice of Motion

Moved by Councillor Rowley

Seconded by Councillor Anderson

Because outdoor exercise and activity is important to many in Brighton, especially children. And, that promoting wellness in the community aligns with our Strategic Plan,

The creation of an outdoor recreational ice pad/skating rink be considered by staff in the event that the King Edward Park Arena remains closed for the 2020/2021 ice season."

The following information (August 25, 2020) is from the Brighton Minor Hockey Association Website. It urges people to register by September 15th, but payment won't be processed until the participants are on the ice.

King Edward Park Arena is scheduled to re-open September 28, 2020. BDMHA will be given directives within the week on the facility’s current rules and regulations.

Starting September 1, OMHA STAGE 3B RETURN TO PRACTICE AND PLAY is slated to begin.

- Players must be registered for the 2020-21 season in order to be eligible and covered by Hockey Canada insurance. Players may participate with their Home Association or the Association with which they were registered for the 2019-20 season.

- Players registering for the very first time will register with the Association identified as their residential (home) Association.

- Associations may now begin to collect registration fees for programming associated with Stage 3.

What will fees look like?

We are planning for a month-to-month approach. In order for us to set the October payment, please have your child registered by September 15. No payment is required at this time. The standard $50 Hockey Canada Insurance Fee will be expected with first payment before your child hits the ice. Please register your player as soon as possible at https://brightonminorhockey.ca/

Thank you to all who have registered, our numbers are very promising!

AGM information will be announced shortly.

We ask that you please be patient as we move forward together. There are many moving pieces that, as an association, we do not have control over. Directives are given to us by many organizations including OMHA, Municipality of Brighton and our Public Health Unit. These directives can change daily.

In order for Brighton Minor Hockey to run successfully, WE NEED VOLUNTEERS AND COACHES! Volunteers are required at the arena collecting COVID19 disclosures and public info at all practices and games. Please contact us ASAP!
