November 28, 2018 - Northumberland County Presentation on Implementation of Natural Heritage Plan

The Province of Ontario has mandated that Natural Heritage Systems Plans (NHSP) must be implemented across Ontario.

Simply put, the purpose of a NHSP is to ensure that natural resources are protected and to guide responsible planning decisions in municipalities. The NHSP will greatly impact where development can occur, and also what is permitted, or not permitted, in NHS areas.

Dwayne Campbell, Manager of Land Use Planning & Inspection Services in Northumberland County has begun the development process of the NHSP for the County. Once the County’s Official Plan is amended to adopt the NHSP, the seven municipalities/townships in the County will amend their Official Plans accordingly. The County expects to have the NHSP completed by around June 2019.

The first round of public meetings held last week in Cobourg, Cramahe and Campbellford introduced the NHSP to citizens. We encourage everyone to listen to the presentation, and if you have any questions and/or comments, to please direct them to Dwayne Campbell (This email address is being protected from spambots.
